Our story

Three generationsof the same family.

Plaid Coffee is owned and run by Goodner, her son Trevor Taynor (the roaster), and her daughter Brooklyn Bertels. Our heritage is Scottish and Irish, and Scotland is a place the family has loved. Every roast is named for a place or character from that map.

Trevor also runs 222 Artisan Bakery, where the espresso bar is poured from a Plaid roast every day. A new dedicated Plaid shop is being built at 463 E Vandalia Street, in the historic Hi-Way Café building on Route 66.

Where can I buy Plaid Coffee?

Retail bags at 222 Artisan Bakery and Clementines Ice Creamery in Edwardsville. Saturday-morning farmers markets at Goshen Market (Edwardsville) and Tower Grove Saturday Market (St. Louis). Our own dedicated shop at 463 E Vandalia Street is in construction.

Who roasts Plaid Coffee?

Plaid is owned by Goodner, her son Trevor Taynor, and her daughter Brooklyn Bertels. Trevor is the roaster, and he also runs 222 Artisan Bakery. Every Plaid bag is small-batch roasted by Trevor and the team.

Why is it called Plaid?

Plaid is inspired by the family's Scottish and Irish heritage. As Goodner says, "Scotland is a place the family has loved." Each roast is named after a Scottish place or character: Highland, Isle of Islay, Loch, Pitlochry, Glasgow, Nessie, Big Ed (a nod to Edinburgh, Scotland's hilly capitol), and St. Andrews.

Do you offer wholesale coffee for cafes and restaurants?

Yes. We sell wholesale coffee plus equipment and supplies. Email us at plaidcoffeeroasters@gmail.com or call (314) 495-7805 to set up an account.

What’s a half-caf coffee?

Half-caf coffee is a blend of regular and decaffeinated coffee, giving you about half the caffeine of a full cup. Our 1/2 Caf Pitlochry blends our St. Andrews decaf with a fully washed Bourbon varietal for sweet cocoa notes.
